I was browsing the stationary section, searching for that perfect notebook to inspire me, when a mug with the loveliest typography caught my eye. “Don’t Quit Your Daydream.” What a beautiful concept. What an inspiring motto. And what a time for me to embrace it.
About 6 months ago (I cannot believe it’s been half a year already!), I sent a text message to my friend, and now business partner, that I didn’t realize at the time would have such an impact on both of our lives. Jokingly I said to her, we should seriously just be event planners. We should start our own business. Having both worked in the event planning field for the past few years, we knew we were well equipped and passionate enough to go for it. And then, over soy lattes on a late Friday morning, we decided to take a risk and believe in our daydreams.
A few meetings, countless hours of work, one or two or five mimosas later, and Paperback Events & Consulting was born. We both believe that events, in all their varying forms, tell beautiful stories and we wanted to be a part of that.
Our daydreams really felt like they became a reality when we had our official launch party in January. We were honoured to be joined by so many incredible friends, colleagues, and community members. From the mimosa bar to the PB selfie station, it was truly a night both of us will remember.
Katie and I are so excited to embark on this new journey of self employment, creative community engagement, and join an already incredible group of women entrepreneurs in the Ottawa Valley. Weddings, corporate events, conferences, social media marketing, we can’t wait to tackle it all! And in this short six months, we’ve seen ourselves evolve as entrepreneurs and we’ve seen our business evolve to an events and social media/marketing focus. We’re embracing our passion for events and channeling our creativity into social media and branding for small businesses. And every day, we’re busy dreaming up new ideas and enjoying watching our business grow.
For now, we’re taking it one day and one month at a time, learning and making some mistakes as we go. But one thing is for certain, we know this was the right move for us. I know this was the next step I needed to take. I encourage everyone to follow their passions and their dreams and to see how exhilarating and fulfilling it truly feels to take that leap.
Paperback Events is the result of two creative event planners wanting to share their passion, two military spouses looking to create their own opportunities, and two women finally ready to embrace their inner #GirlBoss.
Don’t quit your daydreams fellow Girl Bosses!
